A registered psychologist in New Zealand since 1996, Juanita continues to also work as a clinical psychologist in the public sector in the care and protection of children, with a previous short stint in Queensland Corrections. Prior to this Juanita worked in a range of non-psychologist roles in a variety of organisations in New Zealand and Australia. Juanita is experienced in clinical and forensic assessment and intervention with children and adults, as well as research, project work, and managing and supervising clinical and other psychologists.

Juanita uses a holistic approach to working with children and adults, employing a range of modalities including creative therapies such as sandplay and symbol work, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and motivational and solution-focussed approaches.

Juanita provides psychological assessments, victim impact assessments, cognitive assessments and
therapy around a range of childhood and adult issues. She works particularly in the areas of anxiety and mood disorders, trauma, ADHD, obsessive compulsive disorder, selective mutism, and Aspergers syndrome in children and adults.

She has an ongoing interest in existential and positive psychology, as well as developing an approach to using sensory-based techniques and creative thinking in facilitating individuals and organisations to develop themselves more uniquely and smartly.

Juanita also works from Starfish Clinic’s Half Moon Bay location.
