Kev is from Liverpool , UK. He is married with two children. He trained as a doctor in Leeds University Medical School, UK.

He initially specialised in General Practice having gained a wide range of experience in paediatrics, obstetrics & gynaecology, general medicine, infectious diseases accident & emergency and surgery. Kev developed a special interest interest in psychiatry & psychological medicine and trained as an adult psychiatrist and then as a child and adolescent psychiatrist. He gained a Master of Medical Science Degree in Psychiatry at Leeds University. Prior to emigration to NZ he held a position as Consultant Child Psychiatrist at Leeds University Teaching Hospital.

On in arrival NZ he worked as Clinical Director for Waitemata Health Auckland with a portfolio of services including Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Maternal Mental Health, Early Intervention (Psychosis) Service and Family Therapy .

Kev and Yvette Ahmad are the founding directors of The Starfish Clinic Ltd. He is Medical Director and Psychiatrist for this service. He has also worked as Visiting Psychiatrist to mental health services throughout New Zealand.

He is a member of the New Zealand Guidelines Committees for both the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autistic Spectrum Disorders and has a special interest in these areas. He is a medical advisor to Autism New Zealand.
